Brief description of the project:

In November 2013, the European project REDICLAIM was launched, a joint project between the University of Ljubljana, the University of Surrey (UK), the Aarhus university (Denmark) and the Institute for Nutrition. The project focused on the health claims on reducing a risk factor in the development of a disease, according to the Article 14 (a) of the Regulation (EC) 1924/2006 and the impact of this regulation on the use of these claims on foods. In addition, research addressed the problems with authorizing risk reduction health claims, existing legislation, the very process of accepting and authorizing new claims, and the economic aspects of health claims. In addition to the evidence-tracking process and the effectiveness of legislative oversight, the objective of the project was also to issue the recommendations for legislators, industry and researchers on how to carry out research and development of new products in this field. The aim of the project was to achieve effective compliance with the legislation and to contribute to the development of innovative, competitive products.
